Some of our suggestions at AlentejoBreak include discovering the Guadiana rapids, the greatness of Alqueva, and the hiking trails hidden around Moura.
The moment you arrive, you’ll be impressed by the size and calmness of the lake. The day isn’t over yet, but it’s time to put the canoes on the water. After all, there are 5.5 kilometres to go until sunset, by far the highest point of the day when you are at the Alqueva lake. In the meantime, there’s time to explore the lake, get to know one of its many islands, and, if you’re in the mood, go for a swim in a lake as still as glass.
For night owls, we suggest a night canoeing activity, that is part of the Dark Sky Alqueva reserve, and allows you to enjoy the beauty of the night sky in Alentejo. Nature’s sounds and smells come alive in darkness, which makes this activity even more magical.
Because the Alqueva lake is so still, it’s the ideal place for anyone who wants to perfect their stand up paddle skills or for beginners just starting to ski or wakeboard. We have classes and baptisms for first-timers, and we rent all the gear needed for the veterans.
But our fantastic moments are not just about the water in Alqueva. Guadiana river has a lot more to explore, especially lesser-known landscapes. From Brinches, there are 10 kilometres to discover in a kayak with just the right dose of rapids for that adrenaline kick and an adventurous day. In the end, and because this is Alentejo, we recharge our batteries with a 100% traditional picnic.
